Before You Begin

It’s best to approach the cleaning process with some care. Remember not to scrub too hard as that can leave scratches on the surface. Also remember to remove any accessories and disassemble your helmet. Units such as a Bluetooth® communicator can get damaged if they’re not removed in time. 

Liners & Cheek Pads

When you’re out riding your Yamaha powersports vehicle, you sweat and any face or hair product rubs off on these components. Thankfully, these are removable, which makes cleaning them easier. Wash these by hand with a mild cleaner and microfiber towel or put them in a washing bag and set the washing machine on a gentle cycle to avoid damage. 

You should ideally let the liners and cheek pads air dry. Putting them in the dryer can break down their ability to absorb impact, which is essential in case you’re ever in a collision. If you want to speed up the drying process, place them on a towel to absorb the moisture. They should be fully dry before being replaced in the helmet. 

The Outer Shell

As you ride your Yamaha powersports vehicle, your helmet collects some dirt and grime. To clean this you need something good enough to remove the caked-on gunk but not hard enough to damage your shell. Soak a microfiber rag in water and place it on the helmet so the grime loosens up. If you notice any gunk in the vents, use a toothbrush or cotton swab to get it out. 

The Visor

To get a closer clean, remove the visor if possible. Your helmet care instructions might guide you on the best way to take it off without causing any harm to it. Here again, you’ll need your soft microfiber rag and a gentle cleaning product that’s tailored for the visor material. It’ll get the bug splatter and gunk off, leaving your vision clear the next time you hop onto your Yamaha powersports vehicle.

Helmet Maintenance

You can be more proactive when it comes to taking care of your helmet and preventing damage. If you wear a bandana when you ride your Yamaha powersports vehicle, you won’t have to clean your liner too often. When you return from a ride, let your helmet air out before storing it. If you clean out all dirt and debris after each ride, it won’t have time to harden and become more difficult to clean. 

Storage

When you have to store your helmet, use the storage bag it came with. It stops dirt from settling on the helmet and prevents bugs from making their home in it. Sometimes riders get a helmet carrying case that offers good protection during storage and transportation. However, you choose to store your helmet, make sure you keep it away from your other gear. If you store them all together, the smells and gunk on your items can rub off onto your cleaned helmet!
