Simple Performance Upgrades For Off-Road Vehicles

Dec. 24 2019 Miscellaneous By ___

Your powersports or off-road vehicle, whether it’s an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) or side-by-side, is stocked with great features that make it a breeze to ride. You probably love lots of things about your off-road vehicle, but did you know that there are ways to improve it even more? You can! Several ways to augment your powersports vehicle exist and they can improve how fast your vehicle moves, how good its traction is and how easily it handles, as well as how comfortable it is and how cool it looks!

Dunfords of Havelock is proud to be your Ontario off-road vehicle dealer, so here are some of our recommended performance upgrades for ATVs and side-by-sides.

Exhaust

You can upgrade the exhaust of your vehicle to better the performance by changing out the full system or adding a slip-on onto it. Talk to a pro if you’re not sure what kind of slip-on to add. Or you could look into reducing the restrictions on your ATV or side-by-side, which may mean upgrading your engine as well to make it capable of handling an increase in exhaust without backfiring.

Tires

Your standard powersports vehicle tires are great for a variety of uses, whether you’re going out riding on a field or along a hard-pack dirt nature path. They are called “all-terrain” tires for a reason, after all! But you can upgrade and change out the tires for different types of riding. Get mudding tires that can gain purchase in slippery conditions, or paddle tires for riding on loose material like sand. You can look for tires that have deeper treads or stronger sidewalls or knobs that grip the ground, or simply get larger tires to go more quickly in your side-by-side or ATV.

Ground Clearance

Riding on an ATV or a side-by-side often puts you on rocky or bumpy ground that has higher obstacles, which is why high ground clearance is an important feature of powersports vehicles. Most have at least a foot of ground clearance to reduce the damage to the undercarriage caused by those obstacles. In order to better protect the undercarriage, you can invest in skid plates to install on the bottom of your vehicle to provide some additional shielding, which will help to reduce the risk of damage to your powersports vehicle.

Intake

The intake on your engine draws air into it, and improving that airflow will automatically give you more speed and power than before. A better air filter is a good way to do this, but you’ll want to look for options without too much thick foam inside them. Thick and dense foam can reduce the intake in and of itself.

You can also open up the airbox in a few different ways to increase the airflow, although this also means there will be more ways for water to get into your engine. This is something that’s best done by the pros, so don’t hesitate to contact the Dunfords of Havelock service department if you want our assistance on this or any other upgrade!
